Meet Your Educator
Kenny Yu is a registered physiotherapist in both New Zealand and Hong Kong, bringing over 20 years of robust clinical experience to the postgraduate education space. Based in Dunedin, Kenny serves as the Consultant Physiotherapist and Clinical Educator at A+ Physio, where his daily caseload focuses heavily on managing patients with complex, chronic musculoskeletal pain.
A Global Clinical Journey
Born and initial clinically trained in Hong Kong and Australia, Kenny’s early career took root at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He subsequently broadened his clinical perspective by working across diverse NGO environments and private hospital settings before establishing his own successful private practice. Seeking to continually push the boundaries of manual therapy, he pursued advanced knowledge across New Zealand, eventually relocating to New Zealand in 2021 to continue his dual role as a dedicated clinician and mentor.
Academic Foundations & Movement Analysis
Kenny completed his advanced Master’s training in Manipulative Physiotherapy at the University of Otago. His academic research focused deeply on Clinical Pilates, where mastering movement pattern analysis became a foundational pillar of his diagnostic framework. Immediately following his initial graduation, Kenny also underwent training in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This early exposure allowed him to explore a powerful "East meets West" approach to rehabilitation, leading him to critically examine traditional cupping therapy through a modern, evidence-informed lens.
Unmasking the Science of Decompression
Kenny developed the Modern Cupping Method in 2016 which eventually rebrand as Fascial Mobilisation Therapy (FMT) framework to address the dual crisis in modern therapy: the need for rapid, safe, and lasting objective patient results, and the urgent requirement to protect the physical longevity and joint health of the therapist.
